Overview¶
What this screen is for¶
The Overview is the first screen you see in the Control Tower. It shows, on one page, how the day is going: how many orders are in, which ones are stuck, which are waiting for a plan, where the vehicles are, and what has gone wrong. Every number on it is counted from real records, and every tile opens the list of records behind it.
Who can see it¶
Everyone who signs in to the Control Tower sees this screen. Your organisation's administrator decides what each role is allowed to change; see Roles & permissions and the roles reference.
Where to find it¶
Control Tower in the left-hand menu, under OPERATIONS. It is also the page you land on after choosing your organisation.
What you see¶
Header. The title Control Tower, your organisation name and its depots, a Telemetry live or Telemetry idle badge (live means at least one vehicle is reporting its position), the time and today's date, and the Shift handover log button.
Overall Health. A band of tiles grouped by stream. Each tile shows a number, a unit and a short note underneath. Hover a tile to see what it counts.
| Group | Tile | What it counts |
|---|---|---|
| Orders | Total orders · today | Orders requested for today. |
| Orders | Validation failures | Orders that failed a check at intake and cannot move on. The note shows how many are high priority. |
| Planning | Unplanned orders | Accepted orders with no vehicle allocated yet. |
| Planning | SLA at risk · unplanned | Unplanned orders already at risk of, or past, their promised service level. |
| Planning | SLA at risk · validation | Blocked orders already at risk of, or past, their promised service level. |
| Fleet | Vehicle utilization | Vehicles on a trip now, out of the vehicles in your fleet. |
| Fleet | Avg capacity utilization | How full the vehicles on the road are, on average. |
| Delivery | ETA compliance | The share of deliveries on time and in full. |
| Exceptions | Open exceptions | Orders currently in the exception stage. The note shows how many have no vehicle or driver. |
| Revenue | Revenue at risk | The value of blocked and at-risk orders. |
An order's SLA position is shown as On Track or At Risk.
Validation Failures. The five most urgent orders that failed intake, sorted by delivery date and then priority. Columns: Order ID, Customer, Delivery Date, Priority, Validation Failure (the reason, for example no contract cover or a delivery point that could not be found on the map), Status and Action. View all → opens the intake queue on the Orders screen.
Unplanned Orders. The five most urgent accepted orders with no vehicle. Columns: Order ID, Customer, Delivery Date, Priority, Status, SLA and Action. View all → opens the Planning board.
Live Movement Map. A map of the vehicles on the road and the delivery sites they are heading to, with a count of active and late vehicles. Vehicle and site statuses are explained in the statuses reference.
Exceptions. The five most recent open exceptions. Columns: Exception ID, Exception Type, Severity, Order / Trip, Vehicle, Driver, Customer, Location, Delivery · open for, Status and Action. Severity is Critical, High or Medium depending on how late the order is. Status is Open when no vehicle or driver is assigned, and In Progress once both are.
What you can do¶
Look into a number. Click any tile. A detail panel opens on the right with the matching records, and a button at the bottom takes you to the screen where you can work on them.
Work a validation failure.
- In Validation Failures, click the action button on the order's row (its label depends on the reason, for example Review contract or Correct the order).
- Read the explanation in the detail panel.
- Click Decide on this order. You are taken to the intake queue, where you can accept the order anyway or decline it. Both need a reason; see Orders.
Click the small arrow beside the action button to see the two choices, Accept order (override) and Decline order.
Plan an unplanned order. Click Plan now on the order's row, read why it is unplanned, then click Open Planning board. The actual allocation happens on the Planning board.
Handle an exception. Click Resolve exception to see the impact, the penalty exposure and who is assigned. Its button moves the order on from the exception stage. The small arrow beside it opens the order so you can assign an owner or add a note.
Open an order. Click or hover any order number. Hovering shows a small card with the key facts; clicking opens Order details.
Filter the map. Click Late journeys only to show only vehicles that are running late or whose arrival time is at risk. Reset view appears after you zoom in and brings the whole fleet back into view.
Open the handover log. Click Shift handover log for the items routed to each team this shift, with their priority. Use it when one shift hands over to the next.
Popups and panels¶
Detail panel¶
A panel that slides in from the right when you click a tile, a row action or a map marker. It has a title, a line of filters showing exactly what is being listed, a set of records (each with a coloured tag), and a footer.
- Dismiss or the × closes it without doing anything.
- The blue button on the right (for example Open Orders or Open Planning board) closes the panel and takes you to the screen where the records can be worked.
- Clicking the dimmed area outside the panel also closes it.
Vehicle popup¶
A small card that opens when you click a vehicle on the Live Movement Map. It shows the plate number, a state (On time, ETA at risk or Running late), the route, and Order, Driver, ETA, Speed, Zone and Last fix (how long ago the vehicle last reported). View vehicle details → opens the detail panel for that journey. Clicking a delivery-site marker opens the detail panel for the site instead.

Tips¶
- A tile says one number but the list shows fewer rows. Detail panels show the first eight records only. The footer tells you how many are in scope; use the button at the bottom for the full list.
- Telemetry idle. No vehicle has reported a position recently. The map and the fleet tiles will be empty until one does.
- Resolved exceptions are not listed. Resolving an exception moves the order out of the exception stage, so it leaves this list.
- Why is an order not in Unplanned Orders? Only accepted orders with no vehicle appear. Orders still in intake are in Validation Failures or in the Orders screen.
